“Your employees, especially the salespeople, are the frontliners of
your sunglasses store. These people are practically your store ambassadors.
Doesn’t matter if you are able to get the best deals on wholesale sunglasses
that you’re capable of pricing them to your advantage; if you have incompetent
salespeople, your business is not going anywhere.”
So you managed to make the most
out of the hiring process we tackled in one of the previous articles and
actually ended up with some good-performing employees. Now comes the equally
tricky task – keeping them.
The goal is to make them feel
appreciated and important, because they are. Otherwise they’ll soon be looking
for greener pastures, businesses that will offer them better opportunities.

Have a good communication with
your employees. If you have a good relationship with the employees of
your sunglasses store, it will make it easier for them to talk to you about
issues concerning their work. Let them know about your expectations. Make it
clear to them and remind them about it when need be. Regularly talk to each of
them and give them the chance to voice out
their opinions on anything that concerns the store.
Constantly mentor them. Guiding
your employees in the fulfillment of their work does not end with their formal
training. Instead, you should constantly offer them tips on how to be efficient
at work and in life. Employees love a boss who sincerely gives them advice on a
regular basis.
Device a good reward system. Verbal
compliments are sweet, but a good reward system is what keeps employees going
and makes them love the business. For example, you may give a certain amount or
perhaps a discount coupon to the month’s top seller.
Create a fun working environment.
Make sure your employees are having fun while at work. You may want to
organize team-building activities so your employees become comfortable with
each other, thus making for a light mood at work.
Always remember this: Your staff
is your store’s most valuable asset. Make them feel that and they will give you
the competence you are looking for.
And how about the likelihood of having a staff composed of model
employees?
